WORKING TOGETHER FOR A SAFER,
MORE LIVABLE COMMUNITY.
PROMOTING DEEPER INTEGRITY IN THE LEADERSHIP,
ENSURING FAIR AND IMPARTIAL DECISIONS,
RESTORING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
IN OUR JUSTICE COURT.
I have been a Justice of the Peace and Magistrate protem for 13 years, since my judicial appointment in 2001. I continue to work collaboratively with area agencies toward a safer, more livable community. I am a skilled jurist, and I care deeply about the judicial process, including restorative justice programs.
As a public administrator and scholar in the application of the law, I bring a unique and balanced perspective to lead the Flagstaff Justice Court. As elected Justice of the Peace, I will restore fiscal responsibility to the court and work to promote deeper integrity in the Flagstaff Justice Court -- a court of the people, by the people, and for the people.
In my experience as Justice of the Peace protem, I have come to understand the true nature of issues before the court. Most arguments that are seemingly a disagreement about the law are in fact disagreements about an understanding of the facts of a case.
I carefully listen to, and appreciate the social and cultural contexts at the root of disagreements, and then apply the law to the disagreement... as opposed to a logic-chopping legal analysis without regard to what the litigants are even disagreeing about.
In my experience, understanding the reasons for disagreements has often led to a resolution between the parties well ahead of a formal judgment. That is the hallmark and the responsibility of our Justice Court. Good reasoning skills, and an ability to understand and interpret evidence is paramount to being a good judge. If one does not have these skills, it is going to be very difficult to make reasoned decisions from the bench. My comprehensive education and diversity of experience makes me uniquely qualified to lead the Flagstaff Justice Court.
With your vote on August 26th, 2014 to elect Warren Sanford for Justice of the Peace Flagstaff, I will continue a third generation of public service and stewardship for Coconino County.
I thank you for your support, and I would be grateful for your endorsement.
